A thriving business is profitable, good to work in, achieves its goals and operates according to its core values. For a business to be successful people need to be happy in their work and be good at what they do.
It is the human effort that counts most and it is the consistent performance of the smallest components of your team that contribute to the overall success of your business.
The symbiosis is necessary for the growth to be mutual.
It is easy to lose perspective though and it seems the toughest test of a manager today is not so much dealing with poor performance, but rather it is addressing mediocrity.
“If I had a good job I would really put some effort in, but all I have is this lousy job so I just don’t.”
In the same way you can’t say that you would be generous if you had lots of money but because you are not rich you can’t be generous.
Unless your philosophy changes, you will never have “lots of money.”
